Naramata Acreage Revival
Nestled a short walk up the hill from Naramata Village, this small, peaceful acreage boasts panoramic lake views and carries with it a rich agricultural history. From a small apple and pear orchard to a more recent stint as a commercial Lavender Farm, the property has witnessed the ebb and flow of time. In 2017, new owners took the reins, inheriting two aging pickers cottages and a barn, all in need of considerable repair, winterizing, and modernization. Collaborating closely with LBS (Little Building Solutions), a vision emerged to reimagine both the barn and the main cottage—preserving the property’s history and character while crafting simple, unique, and functional spaces for work, play, and relaxation.
A Bright Rebirth
The quaint, 500-square-foot cottage underwent a transformation that breathed new life into its timeworn walls. Stripped down and rebuilt with a fresh functional layout, it now exudes a bright, cozy, and comfortable ambiance. A kitchen passthrough and patio doors leading to an expanded outdoor covered patio seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor living. The roof’s top-side insulation allowed the original fir rafters to take center stage, creating an illusion of greater spaciousness and preserving the character of the aged structure.
Where Character Meets Functionality
Following the flow of the cottage’s rejuvenation, the barn underwent a full-scale renovation, guided by the same principles—simplicity, functionality, and uniqueness while embracing the essence of an old barn. The crowning jewel of the barn is the newly engineered rafters crafted from stock lumber and steel, stretching gracefully across the loft and the double-height primary space. Wraparound windows invite natural light, a wood-burning fireplace adds warmth, and a 10-foot table, fashioned from fir salvaged during the cottage renovation, serves as a focal point for work and communal gatherings.
In the heart of Naramata, this revitalized acreage is more than a mere property; it’s a testament to thoughtful restoration. The cottages and barn, now reimagined by the skilled hands of LBS, stand as echoes of the past and visions of the future. Here, history and modernity intertwine, creating spaces that not only honor their roots but also cater to the evolving needs of those who call this picturesque haven their home.
