Creating a One-of-a-Kind Wellness Experience

Little Building Solutions completed the tenant improvement for Tality Wellness, transforming an existing commercial space into a distinctive wellness destination in downtown Kelowna. Designed around the growing popularity of contrast therapy, the renovation brings together sauna, cold plunge, and social gathering spaces within an immersive environment that feels calm, intimate, and connected to nature.

Every detail of the renovation was carefully considered to support both the customer experience and the architectural vision. The result is a commercial interior that balances functionality, durability, and atmosphere while creating a memorable destination for visitors.

A Forest-Inspired Design

Rather than creating a traditional spa, the design was inspired by the feeling of standing beneath a forest canopy after dark. Rich materials, soft lighting, and natural textures combine to create an environment that feels warm, grounded, and inviting.

Throughout the space, carefully placed vegetation, dark finishes, and layered lighting reinforce the connection to nature while encouraging guests to slow down, relax, and enjoy the experience.

The Sauna as the Centrepiece

The custom sauna serves as the architectural focal point of the facility. Positioned as the visual anchor of the interior, it celebrates the ritual of moving between heat, cold, and connection.

Natural cedar lines the sauna interior, while striking yakisugi (shou sugi ban) cedar cladding wraps the exterior, creating a bold statement that immediately captures attention upon entering the space. The contrast between the charred timber and the warm cedar interior reinforces both the natural material palette and the project’s distinctive identity.

Charred cedar, polished concrete, large-format tile, and natural wood were chosen not only for their durability in a commercial wellness environment but also for their warmth and texture. The layered lighting strategy adds depth, enhances the material finishes, and helps create the feeling of soft moonlight filtering through a forest canopy.
